About Rick
Richard J. “Rick” Ebbinghouse helps clients approach tax problems with the discipline of a trial lawyer: understand the facts, identify the legal options, and deal with the taxing authority from a position of preparation.
Rick graduated from Cumberland School of Law, cum laude, in June 1977, finishing in the top 15% of his class. Since graduating, he has spent much of his career litigating in federal court, including both trials and appeals.
He began his legal career in Selma, Alabama with Legal Services Corporation of Alabama, where he was responsible for two major class actions involving civil rights housing and consumer home improvement issues. In 1980, he moved to Tuscaloosa to help open that office, served as Senior Staff Attorney, and supervised twelve attorneys.
Rick later returned his focus to complex litigation and training, and from 1984 through 1988 maintained a solo litigation practice in Birmingham, Alabama. He joined his brother, Tom, at Ebbinghouse Law Group, LLC in 2011.
Outside the office, Rick has a long history of community involvement, including service with Community Grief Support Service in Birmingham and the Alabama Council on Human Relations. He is also an Eagle Scout.
